After each word you play, a card pops up showing what the word means. How long should it stay on screen?
Press a tile and drag across adjacent tiles to spell a word (3+ letters), release to submit. Drag backwards to undo a letter.
Each round has a score target (the bar at the top). Fire spreads on a timer — burning tiles sink and multiply, and every round the clock ticks faster. If a burning tile reaches the bottom, the run ends. Douse a fire by using that tile in a word. Hit the target to clear the round.
"Rogue(lite)" means every run starts fresh and gets progressively harder — but during a run you collect upgrades that stack into wild combinations. Here the upgrades are special letters, called buffs: clear a round and you pick 1 of 3.
They wait in your inventory below the board. Tap a chip, then tap any board tile to place it there (placing on a burning tile douses it). It plays like a normal letter but carries its power — and is consumed when used in a word, unless an effect says otherwise.
Plain — just the letter you need, no power.
Blue — modest: +10% word score, survive chances, ❄️ freezes.
Purple — stronger: +20% score, virtual word length, auras that boost neighbours.
Gold — wild: +50% score, wildcards, duplicators, upgraders, effect-doublers.
Some letters grant a freeze token when used in a long word. Each token holds the fire for one tick of the clock.
Consumed special letters aren't always gone — each has a 20% chance to return to the board in a later round, powers intact.
Many buffs grow the more that kind is used across the run — score bonuses compound, requirements drop, effects strengthen. Chase synergies; broken builds are the point.
